From her father, Woody, to The Beatles, from her boyfriend, Pete, to her illegitimate son, and later her husband and daughter, Mary is on a journey of discovery about Love, truth, heartbreak and beyond. “Love! Love! Love!” captures the dynamic essence of industrial and working class Northern England [from Bradford & Pudsey to Scarborough] in the 60’s and charts one girl’s emotional journey from innocence to experience through her teenage years into mature womanhood, to the backdrop of her passion for The Beatles and their music. Looking back from Western Australia in 2008 as she uncovers her memory box of Beatles fan club items, Mary tells her story with humour and reflective insight for the powerful message which The Beatles brought to society, through their music. “LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!” is an entertaining and provocative, part autobiographical and part fiction, piece of heartfelt, social documentary. Backed by some of the all time favourite hits of The Beatles this is sure to resonate with all those baby boomers who witnessed the transformation of their hearts, their lives, and that of the World, through the influence of the four lads from Liverpool.

Parent

“Love! Love! Love!” is a coming of age story set in Yorkshire during the 1960’s at the height of Beatlemania. The hero is a teenage girl - Mary - who although besotted with the Beatles falls in love with Pete and this leads to difficult circumstances for her. The play sensitively deals with the issue of unwanted teenage pregnancy and subsequent forced adoption. There is a positive resolution to these issues at the end of the play. As the play is set during Mary’s high school years there is ample opportunity for high school students to be included in group scenes (disco, schoolyard, beach, fairground, railway station). There will be some small speaking parts for those involved in those scenes. There will be onstage romance and intimacy between Mary and Pete which includes a scene in bathing costumes. No minors will be involved in these scenes but obviously all the cast will be aware of what is happening on stage. “Love, Love, Love” is set against a backdrop of Beatles music. It is high energy, funny, tragic and utterly compelling. First performed in 2010 in Manjimup it has subsequently staged in Dunsborough and Busselton (2015). John Lee, Director
